PATIENT PERSPECTIVE · COMMUNICATION · COLLABORATION

Life after laryngectomy.

Shared by someone who lives it.

STOMAS brings the patient perspective into talks, teaching, media and collaborations about life after laryngectomy.

“I lost my voice. But I never ran out of things to say.”

Thomas Mølgaard

Why STOMAS?

When treatment ends, the rest of life begins.

A laryngectomy changes much more than your voice. You learn a new way to breathe and speak, navigate social situations, work, eat and exercise, and find your way back to an everyday life that has changed.

STOMAS makes this part of life more visible through personal experience, honest communication and collaboration with people and professionals working in the field.

Everyday life

What is life really like after laryngectomy, at home, at work and around other people?

The patient perspective

Real everyday experiences can complement professional knowledge and build understanding.

Humour

There is room for the unexpected, unusual and funny sides of a life that took a different turn.

Thomas Mølgaard

The story behind STOMAS

My name is Thomas.
I live without a voice box.

My entire larynx was removed because of cancer. The operation saved my life and changed the way I speak, breathe and live.

Since then, I have discovered how little many people know about life after laryngectomy. I want to help change that.

I share what life is actually like, with the difficult parts, the unexpected parts and the things we can laugh about.

Collaboration

Does your work make a difference to people after laryngectomy?

The patient perspective can be valuable. STOMAS can contribute patient insight, events and exhibitions, teaching, content, and feedback on communication, products and initiatives.
